Anthropic Security Agents will change the Managed Security Operations game forever.
Anthropic just dropped a MDR / Managed SOC bomb that looks like it is the real deal, causing an immediate stock price drop across the major cyber security companies globally, arguably more of a “true up” than a valuation change as it is the high cost MSOC and MDR services causing company values to be so high today.
Anthropics new Security Agents, don’t just find alerts, they triage and remediate in seconds without a SIEM, directly with the security tooling in place, so additionally taking away a huge storage cost that legacy SIEM vendors rely on for their profitability – removing the “don’t know if you need that log data, store it anyway.” requirement.
Microsoft Security seems to have picked the right course here all along, by not building an MDR or Managed SOC and having the Data Lake already built out for security events (low cost, rich data) the change is coming. What Anthropic has built will be easy to replicate with Security Copilot.
Key takeway is that SOC operations needs fewer people in the future, yes it needs people of course but more skilled and fewer, Security engineering is where there will be job opportunities until the next paradigm shift.
The other major takeaway is that if MDR and MSOC providers don’t lower their costs, new starters will eat their lunch for them with much faster service offerings at much lower costs very soon, because they won’t need the people to stand up the service.
I realise I am often arguing against Generative AI use cases but this is a great AI Agentic use for stopping cyber crime!
