Add AI to cyber security software, just because….
Not calling out any particular vendor here, but calling out the fact that it has required a marketecture shift to AI is the new snake oil for a vendor to adopt an old technology, Bayesian Machine Learning is nothing new, more details are here about Bayesian ML if you wish to read more about it.
My issue here is that the feature is called out as a “new” capability, if a cyber security company is doing its job as it should then these capabilities are adopted and become part of the future set because they are useful in protecting clients, not because in 2023 AI became a marketecture buzzword that ensures investment dollars for software vendors.
To be Honest, explaining the model is a Bayesian model is both smart and not smart, smart in that the vendor is not simply stating “AI powered” which means nothing at all, but also “not smart” in that it would be much more useful to prospects and customers to simply state that “our ML model starts with a set of parameters and learns as it goes with a clients email, becoming even more effective as time goes on, whilst ensuring that your data is not used to train any other models”.
I do give Cofense credit though for specifying Machine Learning and not simply continuing to use the term AI, because AI is not something that humanity has solved yet! though many companies would beg to differ with their marketing diatribe!
As always please feel free to reach out to us if we can assist in anyway here.
